A bout or a race produces one outcome, and the variety lies in how it is described: who wins, how and when. Independent bookmakers tend to price this variety more widely, so the markets are listed here.

In combat sports the winner, the method and the round are the usual lines. For Formula 1, NASCAR, other motorsport and cycling, podium places and fastest laps are added.

Sportspeople feature in many betting adverts. The CAP Code keeps a person who is under 25, or looks it, from being shown gambling or taking a significant role in the advert. Appearing in an advert and placing a bet are separate questions: the age for the latter is 18.
